That Feeling

Sometimes it's easy to get stuck in a rut. It gets hard to remember what you're supposed to be doing and more than that, why you're supposed to be doing it. You lose your sense of motivation and you lose your drive. The things you used to find interesting don't seem to feel that way anymore. The work you have piled up to do seems pointless, worthless even.

You feel lonely. Disconnected with the world for reasons you can't quite comprehend.

It's difficult to get out of this rut, to shake off this inescapable feeling. I feel it's one we have all experienced to a degree - its difficult to name but easy enough to recognise when you describe its symptoms. I've been stuck in this rut lately and I'm now in the midst of trying to get myself out.

But what are the first steps? I suppose they're different for everyone. For me, I think it's about firstly trying to gain back some perspective. To look at your life and try to understand things again, change that negative viewpoint that's warping your frame of mind. If you can, surround yourself with people and the things that you love. Remind yourself of the wonderful things you have in your life, of your goals and of your aspirations. Remember what it is you're working for and start pushing forward again, slowly but surely.

This is what I'm trying to do right now and I believe with a positive outlook that I'll get back on track. We all encounter bumps in the road and part of me getting back on my journey has involved me writing this in the hopes that in sharing, someone else might find the comfort they've been needing too.

And sometimes, the best step forward can be as simple as sitting down and writing out your feelings.

Just Keep Looking Up.
